DePuy Orthopedics recently issued a full recall of the ASR XL Acetabular hip implant that has been on the market since 2005.  The company has advised patients who received the implant to see their surgeon to check for certain DePuy Hip Symptoms which may indicate hip implant failure.

The defective DePuy Hip Implants can cause severe side effects such as loosening or detachment of the device from the pelvic or femur bone, dislocation of the implant, fracturing of the hip or femur bone attached to the implant, metal shavings from wear of the device, muscle and soft tissue damage, metallic poisoning and bone loss.

The considerable side effects from a defective device in turn can cause significant DePuy Hip Symptoms such as:

  • pain in the thigh
  • hip pain
  • groin pain
  • pain while walking or standing
  • difficulty walking or standing
  • vision or hearing loss, and

DePuy is also asking patients to sign a medical release and turn over the faulty hip implant device if it is removed.
