Pain with Walking
Many patients who received a DePuy ASR XL Hip Implant have noted symptoms of pain while walking or standing. Pain in the hip while ambulating can be a sign of a significant implant failure side effect such as detachment, loosening or dislocation of the device, bone fractures or complications from metallic poisoning.
The ASR XL Hip Implant was designed and marketed by DePuy as a more durable implant allowing patients to maintain their active lifestyles. Unfortunately, defects in the device have left thousands of patients with difficulty walking or standing and in need of revision surgery.
Just five years after its release, DePuy issued a recall of the DePuy ASR XL Implant on August 26, 2010 based on increasing reports of hip implant failure from doctors. Anyone who received a DePuy Implant since 2005 is urged to see their doctor to check for symptoms of hip implant failure.
DePuy Hip Pain while walking or standing can be a sign that an implant has suffered a mechanical failure such as detachment, loosening, or dislocation; or may be a sign of more serious, long term health risk like metallic poisoning.
Researchers have linked the DePuy Hip Implant to the risk of metallic poisoning due to the metal shavings the device can shed. Metal particles that are absorbed into the bloodstream can cause bone loss or damage to muscle and soft tissue. This can also cause symptoms of DePuy hip pain.
If you received a DePuy Hip Implant, contact us immediately to discuss your legal rights with a DePuy Hip Attorney. Lawyers are currently filing DePuy Hip Lawsuits for the severe side effects and symptoms related to these faulty devices. Time to file is limited.
It is important to consult with your doctor and monitor for symptoms of DePuy Implant failure whether or not you have experienced any adverse symptoms. Experts estimate at least 13% of patients will require surgery to remove their implant due to side effects like pain or trouble walking or standing.
Other patients may not notice immediate symptoms but may be at risk for serious long term health problems from metal particles that are absorbed into the bloodstream.
The FDA has received nearly 1,000 reports of patients suffering adverse symptoms like DePuy hip pain while walking or standing. Evidence indicates DePuy knew about the risks of the defective implant after it was released, but continued to market the product for years before warning consumers or ordering a recall.
Legal Options
As part of the recall, DePuy has indicated it will pay “reasonable and customary costs of monitoring and treatment” for the defective hip implants. This may include surgical costs to replace the device, however, it does not compensate patients for pain and suffering, lost time or wages, or the risk of undergoing another surgery.
DePuy is also asking patients to sign a medical release and turn over the faulty hip implant device if it is removed.
Do not sign anything from DePuy or Johnson & Johnson without first speaking with an Attorney. We are available 24 hours a day to answer your questions and provide a confidential evaluation of your case.
